PT6A engines and maintenance
PT6 is a very popular turboprop aircraft engine in the world, manufactured by Pratt and Whitney, Canada. The engine was first launched in 1960 but full production started in 1963. These engines are known for the reliability. PT6A is one of the main variant of this engine, providing 500 to 1940 shaft horse power.
All the hot section components like compressor turbine disc, blades, vane ring, and compressor turbine shroud and combustion liner experience very high temperatures.
Regular engine maintenance can reduce the cost of PT6A Hot section repairs. There are ways to reduce hot section repairs and thus increasing the life. Fuel nozzle service can also impact the life of hot section.
Fuel nozzles take the fuel form the control unit to the combustion chamber. This engine has 14 duplex or simplex fuel nozzles. Regular servicing of PT6A Fuel Nozzles is important to keep the engine in proper condition. Irregular spray pattern of fuel nozzles can affect the working of engines and also causes erosion or cracking of components of hot section. There are many sites which offer service of pt6a parts and engine. although there are many companies which keep the pt6a parts, replacement of genuine parts should be an option only if repair has failed.
